You should all have received a Google Operations alert in Alert Center, which reads as follows.
Dear Edu Administrator,
Educational institutions are now required to annually review and re-confirm access to Google Additional Services for users under 18. Starting today and rolling out over the next couple of weeks, you will be prompted in Admin Console to review additional Google services that are turned on in your institutions and re-confirm access to these services for users under 18.
As a reminder, the Google Workspace for Education Terms require that institutions obtain parental consent before users under 18 can access any Additional Google Service.
What this means for your institution
You will have until March 2025 to complete this re-confirmation for additional Google services for users under 18. After March 2025, for any additional Google service that you have not re-confirmed access, users designated as under 18 can no longer use that service with their Google Workspace for Education account. Admins can re-confirm access to Additional Services after the deadline to restore access to any users designated as under 18.
What you need to do
To review and re-confirm access to Google Additional Services
In the Admin console, go to Menu > Apps > Additional Google services.
- Note: Admins will also see an in product notification on the Admin Console Homepage and can select “Review Consent” to also get started
Review the Additional services that require confirmation. At the top of the table of services, there is a notification of how many services you will be required to re-confirm access.
Confirm consent for an additional service by selecting Confirm consent under Actions.
Note: Admins can review and re-confirm consent at the organizational and group level, if service ‘on’ status was not inherited.
We’re here to help
Review the Manage access to additional services for users designated as under 18 documentation to guide you with reviewing and re-confirming Additional Services, which also includes step by step instructional video.
Review the Communicating with Parents and Guardians about Google Workspace for Education guide to learn more about students’ use of Google services accessed with Google Workspace for Education accounts, and help obtain parental consent where required.
Your institution may have a variety of ways in which you manage the collection and tracking of parental consent, including paper consent forms and/or digital consent. In case it is helpful, Google provides a template that schools can use to gather required parental consent for additional services and for users under 18.
Thanks for choosing Google Workspace for Education.
