Primary Domain Name Change

I intend to contact Google Support regarding this of course. But from those who have had practical experience of this situation, I am seeking some advice. I have been told that the school is changing its name and thus email address/website domain. For context, I am essentially solo, with some tech support, managing nearly 700 users and 500 Chromebooks.

I am wondering how painful this process actually is. For example, I have heard that I will have to manually powerwash the managed Chromebooks and manually re-enroll them using the new domain.

I am hopeful someone that has maybe experienced this could give me some practical and hands on advice.

Many thanks in advance.

Re-enrolling is only needed if you switch Workspace environment, if you only change the primary domain within an existing Workspace the only thing needed to do is change the setting for auto complete domain to the new one. You can set it to any domain, not just a real domain you own.

After that nothing needs to be done physically on the Chromebooks, users just need to sign in with the new domain as their account details will be changed for login, so they will need to re-auth as far as I am aware.

Thank you so much. Does the message 'managed by......domain' change to the new domain on the change of the primary domain? Thank you  again.

I think so, not 100% sure but I would suspect that is the case. As we have multiple domains active that we push as autofill but it only shows the primary domain name of the Workspace on all Chromebooks. As a Chromebook is part of the Workspace and not assigned to a domain name.
