Chrome Canvas Issue

I was recently notified by a school district that even though they had Chrome Canvas turned off in Additional Services, when a student clicked the icon on the Shelf, it woudl still open.  After some investigation, I was able to tell them that if they block the url "canvas.apps.chrome" in their admin console, then the app would open, but to a page that says "canvas.apps.chrome is blocked".  Not ideal, but a workariund.

Is there a way to remove Chrome Canvas from the Shelf?

Thoughts or ideas?

that can not be edited.  Best you can do is send feedback- https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95315?hl=en&sjid=2765215240964177175-NC

To be honest it likley would get no traction. Pretty sure others tried on this.

That is what I was finding too.  Still hoping someone has a way in here, but not holding my breath.

I think you can control Canvas, Cursive, Screencast, Gallery, and Camera on the shelf by going to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers > Additional settings > Pin Create apps:

I did uncheck them in my test OU, but they still remained in the doc.  Might have to wait the whole 24 hours.

This happened last spring - we had a large thread on Canvas and Screencast icons going in the Google Group. Google finally made a way to control it in the Admin Console but just unchecking the boxes will not automatically remove it from student devices. It has to be uninstalled from the student device. Big PAIN!

Thanks for the info Mickie.  Hope all is well in NE!
