Hello Global GEG community!
This month, we are diving deep into Equity and Access in STEM. Achieving equity in STEM means ensuring that every student—regardless of their primary language or geographic location—has a seat at the table and the tools to succeed.
This week’s Google Workspace updates offer significant progress in breaking down these barriers, particularly for our international research and collaboration efforts.
Gemini in Chrome: New Languages for Global STEM Research
Research is the gateway to STEM discovery. Gemini in Chrome has now expanded to India, Canada, and New Zealand, adding support for over 50 new languages.
- Equity Impact: By supporting dozens of local languages, Gemini allows students whose first language may not be English to summarize scientific papers and draft research queries with greater confidence and accuracy.

Streamlining Lab & Mentor Meetings with "Help me schedule"
Coordinating complex STEM projects often requires finding time for multiple student lab partners or external mentors. The "Help me schedule" tool in Gmail now supports scheduling with multiple guests directly from your email draft.
- Access Impact: This simplifies the process for students to organize collaborative sessions, ensuring that time-zone differences or busy schedules don't prevent diverse voices from participating in the project.

High-Visibility Labs with Improved Calendar Scaling
For educators displaying schedules or data logs on large, high-resolution monitors in labs or workshops, Google Calendar on the web now features improved screen scaling.
- Accessibility Impact: This update reduces whitespace and maximizes screen real estate, making essential schedule information legible from further away, supporting a more inclusive and organized workspace.

Secure and Organized Technical Discussions
- Continuous Chat Control: A new admin control for "continuous meeting chat" helps keep technical and scientific discussions in Google Meet focused and organized. Read more here.
- Principal-Delegate Clarity: Updates made to meetings by a delegate will now be sent in the name of the principal, ensuring clarity in communication across large STEM departments. Read more here.
Note: Many of these updates—particularly the global language support for Gemini—are rolling out over the coming weeks. Please check with your IT Administrator to see when these features will be available for your specific school or region.
