Hello Global GEG community!
This week’s Google releases deliver smart AI enhancements for data management and media creation, highly requested privacy controls for calendar management, and powerful real-time synchronization tools for school IT departments.
Here is a breakdown of the latest official announcements from the July 10, 2026, recap:
📊 Smarter Data & Media: Global Language Expansions for Sheets and Vids
Google is expanding its core AI functionalities to support international classrooms and global teams with two major updates:
- Fill with Gemini in Sheets: This AI-powered tool eliminates the need for complex spreadsheet formulas by automatically generating text, summarizing info, categorizing data, and analyzing sentiment. It is now available in 11 additional languages.
- Slides-to-Video in Google Vids: The capability to convert static Google Slides presentations into dynamic videos—complete with AI-generated scripts, voiceovers, music, and animation—has officially expanded past English to support French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.
- Educational Value: Language teachers and international educators can now seamlessly generate localized classroom data grids or transform standard lecture slides into engaging multi-lingual video recaps at scale.
📅 Discrete Delegation: New Google Calendar Sharing Controls
Managing leadership schedules gets a massive privacy upgrade. Google is rolling out a new calendar sharing permission level: "Make changes (see private events as free/busy)". This allows users to grant full editing access to a colleague or administrative assistant while keeping the specific details, descriptions, and titles of private events completely hidden.
🔒 Domain Infrastructure: Inbound SCIM Support for Identity Sync
For institutional IT administrators, standardizing account lifecycles just became much more efficient. Google Workspace has launched the general availability of inbound SCIM APIs. This allows technology teams to sync their Google Workspace directory in real time with any SCIM-compatible Identity Provider (IdP), human resources platform, or custom student information system.
📹 Connected Campus: Google Meet & Neat Room Hardware Enhancements
Bringing universal connectivity to physical campus meeting rooms, Google has introduced two hardware updates:
- Universal SIP via Pexip: Users can now join video conferences on Google Meet room hardware via SIP through a Pexip interop gateway. This allows room systems (running on both Android and ChromeOS) to natively connect to meetings hosted on any SIP-compatible external platform.
- Neat Occupancy Counting: Android-based Neat room hardware now includes built-in occupancy counting features, matching the resource management capabilities previously exclusive to ChromeOS devices.
- Review the new hardware connectivity and occupancy updates
💡Note: Advanced configuration options, such as inbound SCIM API deployment, calendar delegation restrictions, and hardware room management parameters, require specific administrative access levels. Please coordinate with your institution’s central IT administration to determine how these tools are deployed on your school domain.
