When exchanging local knowledge across international boundaries, Duckworth warned against the common tendency of global education to search solely for universal similarities, which often erases unique cultural distinctions.
She recommended a simple four-step protocol for international classroom exchanges: Share stories only with community consent; Name the cultural boundaries and context; Ask clarifying questions driven by genuine curiosity rather than entitlement; and Listen intentionally for differences rather than forcing familiarity.
