What is Google Workspace for Education Plus (Extra Student)?

Apparently Google Workspace for Education Plus (Extra Student) is a type of licence, separate from an ordinary Plus student license.

I've never seen or heard about it until today.

Guessing: I believe EduPlus is or was sold as a ratio: you get so-and-so many "student" licenses for every "staff" license (even though they're functionally identical). I've always assumed that the "Extra Student" licenses are for orgs where that ratio doesn't quite work, and Google negotiates a slightly different arrangement.

That is probably what it's for, but you are referring to the old type of licence, listed just below, as Google Workspace for Education Legacy SKU.

I mean, I think you are right.

These Extra students are purchased to get more free Staff licences.

New structure/logic is 4 students = 1 staff.

Utterly pointless, as you could just buy 4 regular students.

Unless it is a completely different price, but then schools would start lying.

Maybe they are easier to get rid of? Not have to wait for the next yearly refresher?

Answering as a reseller here - when you buy Education Plus the purchase is authorized by Google - but then if a new student joins and you want to add one more license-  this allows us to just add one (or a few) on, without the need to go through the whole order process/student number verification process again. So it's really for mid-year admissions etc...
