Sharing key insights about using Google Forms and Gemini to gather insight about parental concerns regarding online classes. In Pakistan as per the government directives schools have shifted to online schooling on Fridays. Somehow when we checked the attendance seemed low which was verified by schools. In order to get parental feedback regarding low online attendance we created a survey form in Google Forms with three simple questions: Your child campus, his or her grade, did she or he attend online class and select reasons for not attending. The form link was shared with parents through whatsapp groups. It was great to see around 900 plus parents responding to the survey form.
If we had to manually analyse the data gathered about 900 plus parents, it would have taken days. But Gemini in Google Sheets and Google Forms takes your data analysis to a whole new level. Gemini in Google Sheets can create various graphical representations of your data in the form of charts making it much easier to understand. What we could see top three to four reasons shared by parents regarding shortage of attendance. These included internet connectivity issues, siblings having the class at the same time, lack of digital devices at home with parents, teachers not sharing links, lack of students interests etc
This was followed by scheduling an online session using Google Meet with all concerned School Principals. The data was shared with all School Principals during the Google Meet sessions. I do not see use of data till it is shared with the concerned stake holders. School Principals shared some valuable ideas including reducing time or revising or getting paid links or lessoning the number of classes/subjects on Fridays. Though I forgot to turn on recording and transcription which could have been very useful and I usually try to record all sessions.
True impact in schools is visible only when all stakeholders are taken on board and their ideas and thoughts are heard. Their voices are not only heard but truly valued. What Google for Education has done for all of us as educators is something incredible and beyond our thoughts. It has brought every one on the same doc. e have asked schools to share links to online classes so we can attend and observe. It keeps us connected for good. And in the light of the feedback received we will be revising the whole plan for online classes.
