Students Unable to Record in Google Slides

Hi all! We have a faculty member interested in having their students record on Google Slides, but when the students open a slide deck the record option is greyed out. The students are using an updated version of Chrome and our campus has Google Education Plus. Our Google Admin confirmed the student accounts have the correct plus licensing. Does any know if there is a setting in the Admin controls to enable students to record in slides or why students are currently unable to record?

They will be recording presentations. The faculty member wants to use the Slides recording option: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/14221290?hl=en

A google search brought up "The Google Slides Recording Function is only available in the following Google Workspace Account types: Google Workspace Business Standard. Business Plus. Enterprise Starter."

I do not think it is in any EDU versions.

That's also how it shows for me (domain super admin account).  Does it appear when YOU go into Slides?

Yes, I've used this feature to make recordings on slides and made a Speaker Spotlight training using it in November for faculty. Strangely when I checked a minute ago it was greyed out on my account now.

I wonder if Google silently pulled this away from Education domains???

We don't have it available as well.

Correction, this article seems to imply it is available for Education Plus as well:

However, I have EDU Plus for my domain and this feature is not available to me either.

It's working for me on Education Plus. I did not test with a student account.

I cannot find an admin panel setting that controls this.  Is there one?  Is it inadvertently tied to something else?

We ran into this yesterday.  I opened a ticket with Google and they are experiencing an outage with some customers.  We have Edu Plus licensing and it was working just fine until yesterday.  Hopefully it is fixed soon.  I haven't received an update today yet.

My record button is back today. It was greyed out yesterday. We are on Ed Plus. Can anyone else confirm that their record button is back?

My button is back as well! I checked a student account and can see the record option there too.

We have not encountered this issue before, and the recording button has never been greyed out in our experience. It’s quite unusual to hear that some users are facing this problem!

OK, folks, I still do not see the "Recording" feature available to our users. Here is a screenshot of the toolbar from one of my Slides presentations.   The second photo shows we have Plus licenses. Please let me know if anyone has a troubleshooting idea before I open a ticket with Google support.

I recommend that you can contact Google support directly and ask them to phone call you for the quickest support.

Yours is different from what we were experiencing as you don't have the "rec" option at all. Ours had the "rec" option, but it was grayed out; now it isn't.
