Michael Prayor, Superintendent of NYC Public Schools - Brooklyn South High Schools - was drawn to educational leadership because he truly believes that education is the most powerful way to unlock hScreenshot_17-7-2025_164051_mail.google.com.jpeguman potential.  He sees it as his mission to not only improve schools, but to transform schools into places where educators feel seen, supported and empowered to lead. “My calling has always been to bridge opportunity with humanity, to build systems where innovation and equity live side by side.”  His moral compass anchored in what he calls the MCK Promise, focuses on four pillars: Compassion, Integrity, Responsibility, and Forgiveness, which he says guided him into leadership.

When asked about the proudest moment in his career, Michael reflected on when he launched the HE3AT program, a place-based learning model that connects students to hands-on, tech-driven, career-connected experiences. HE3AT stands for Health Care, Education, Environment, Energy and Technology. “Watching students not only gain real-world skills but also discover their purpose and voice — especially those who felt unseen in traditional classrooms, was transformational.”    Another proud moment that he recalls stems from when he introduced the MCK Promise Credentialing Model, a program that created opportunities to begin recognizing students for their character and emotional growth, not just their academic performance. “That’s the kind of future I believe in: where who you are becoming matters just as much as what you know.”

Outside of work, Michael loves visiting different beaches around the world - to see the one constant: the mesmerizing sunrise and sunsets. “I am a firm believer that we must teach our students to be kind to the earth and everyone in it.” Leading an active lifestyle, his favorite foods include anything healthy and he also includes swimming, cycling, and running among his hobbies.

As a Principal and Assistant Principal, Michael said that a piece of advice that stuck with him was, “stay ready, so you don’t have to get ready.”  However, he also received advice as a Superintendent to “know your business and mind your business.

Please welcome Michael Prayor to our community!
