Sharing key insights on how to integrate the Google Notebook LM in grade 6 Science subject in schools in Pakistan. Created a notebookLM specifically to teach learners key concepts in Science for grade 6. The first thing I did was to find a PDF version of the science textbook approved by the government of Punjab and Pakistan. This book is based on the single national curriculum SNC. The book was uploaded in the sources section of the notebookLM. The book covers content like plant and cell reproduction, balanced diet, digestive system, matter, elements & compounds, electricity. energy and magnetism . NotebookLM could dive into all contents of the textbook and share key insights about the chapters which is actually time consuming if as teachers we were asked to independently or even in a group.
All grade 6 teachers could work together and create lesson plans /activity guides for the whole term starting August 25 - Dec 25 along with weekly assessment, monthly assessments and even mid term exams. These could be shared with all grade 6 science teachers. Imagine how this would ensure consistency and improve teaching/learning practices for all teachers in school.
I tried creating assessments and quizzes for various chapters which was easy and took no time at all. I created lesson summaries of different chapters which can help learners revising the key concepts before the exams. I could create lesson plans and even curriculum guides. All these can be saved as notes in the notebookLM and shared with learners. These learners can be given edit or view only rights to the notebookLM.
I used the "discover" feature in sources section to find resources to teach about balanced diet to the learners. Interestingly notebookLM could find various resources online to teach these concepts and I could add them to the sources section and create more content using the new resources. This makes life easy for educators. They don't need to spend hours and hours looking for relevant and meaningful resources. Also it summarises the concepts in the articles along with key words/vocabulary.
I can also create audio overviews of the various chapters summarising key points and encourage learners to participant in discussions live with the host. It would increase their confidence and understanding of the content as well.
Imagine all subject teachers being able to collaborate with each other through the Google notebookLM. All teachers having access to all resources even before the term starts. And all this could be accessed on the computers, i-pads or tablets or even mobile phones. Teachers could create notebooks for every subject. The notes could be saved. Teachers teaching in rural schools of Punjab could benefit a lot from the google notebookLM. They could access quality lesson plans and create interactive learning activities for their learners. There are millions of out of school children in Punjab living below the poverty line who have no access to quality education. Even teachers do not have sufficient training or access to resources. If schools in Punjab in rural areas be provided with internet enabled digital devices , that could turn around education with access to google classroom and google notebookLM.
