Title

‪Important information about Google Drive‬

Summary

Dear Google Workspace Administrator,

We're writing to let you know about a technical issue discovered in Google Drive. This issue is now resolved. However, there are some steps that you or your users need to take to ensure items we have placed in their Trash folder are those they did intend to delete.

What happened

We identified a bug in Google Drive that can be triggered when a user deletes and subsequently revives a folder and its associated files. The link between the parent folder and children can sometimes become corrupted in the course of these actions, leading to subsequent delete actions on the parent not being reflected in the rest of the folder hierarchy.

How this was fixed

Google has fixed the logic covering item revival in Google Drive and we have added new checks to help ensure that this issue does not occur again.

What to do
  • A list of affected users for your domain is attached to this notification.

  • Each user should examine their Trash folder to ensure that items that we have placed within that folder are those they did intend to delete.

  • If the items were intended to be preserved, they should untrash those items.

If your organization does not have a Vault retention rule in place, the items in the Trash folder will be permanently deleted after 30 days. If you wish to create Vault retention rules for your organization to retain this data for a longer period of time, please see this guide for detailed instructions.

We're here to help

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions, please contact Google Support and reference issue number 322396344.

Sincerely,

The Google Workspace Team

Funny...I got a similar email in tone but not about Google Drive:

Due to a technical issue impacting your Admin console settings for Search and Assistant, we sent an Alert Center notification on June 16, 2022, advising you that Search and Assistant would be turned off for your organization’s impacted Organizational Units (OUs) and/or users beginning on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. We requested that you take action to keep Search and Assistant on, if you so intended. Since no action was taken, we attempted to turn the service off for all impacted OUs. We recently discovered, however, that an error in the mechanism we used to disable the service resulted in Search and Assistant remaining on for a subset of OUs we intended to turn off in June, 2022.

and so on...
