Hi All, hope your doing well. Let me share with you all a fantastic new incase you guys have not explore it yet. Gemini has now introduced two fantastic features namely Read Aloud and Q/A. These two features can literally transform teaching and learning in the classroom in numerous ways. Learners having difficulty in reading can benefit from the Read Aloud feature. Learners who are more curious can ask questions about the topics taught in their text book and thus extend their knowledge and understanding beyond text books. It is empowering for both learners and teachers in the classroom.
Let us try creating some examples that utilises both the features in purposeful and meaningful ways. I uploaded a textbook for Grade 3 English in PDF form. In the Gemini chat I selected the tools and then the Canvas feature. With the Canvas feature you can create a lot of interactive content. Chapter 4 of the textbook teaches learners about adjectives. The chapter is about kindness to people. I thought of creating an interactive story book that teaches the concept of kindness to learners of grade 3 using adjectives. Instead of the whole class learning 5 to 6 adjectives, the whole class now learns about 30 plus different adjectives through the interactive story book. Each learner can always create different interactive stories that use adjectives. They learn not only the adjectives but different ways to help their community members.
Similarly I tried creating another interactive story book on the topic of force and friction for grade 9 learners using Gemini. Some concepts in Physics are either tough or difficult or too complex. Teaching learners these concepts using interactive stories can make Physics interesting and easy to comprehend for learners. Imagine your learners empowered like anything! it is about giving the ownership of learning back in the hands of the learners. They can ask as many questions about the topic. Usually in a traditional class they wait for their turn to ask questions or shy away from asking questions or either do not have sufficient time to ask questions. At times the teacher focuses on covering the content and thus questions remain unanswered. Let Gemini lead the way!
Next I tried creating interactive flash cards in Gemini about teaching learners of grade 6 responsible and appropriate use of technology. I had to upload the Computer Science book for grade 6. And then follow similar steps. I had to open Gemini using the link gemini.google.com and then select tools and Canvas. I asked Gemini to create interactive flash cards to teach learners of grade 6 about responsible and appropriate use of technology. Gemini will create interactive flash cards about responsible and appropriate use of technology based on key concepts taught in chapter 6 of the book. Learners can correct their mistakes and even practice at own pace. The teachers role her is as a facilitator ensuring all learners reach their full potential.
The same concept can be taught using an interactive story book with Read Aloud and Q/A features in Gemini. Gemini can create different stories about responsible and appropriate use of technology that are different from the book examples. Learners can listen to the story about responsible and appropriate use of technology , even read along. And then ask questions to deepen understanding about the concept taught in class. Instead of memorising the content from the textbook they learn the concept using various examples linked to every day life. This way we prepare learners for their summative exams. If the get questions from outside the textbook they would be fully prepared to answer with confidence.
Similarly I tried creating an interactive quiz to teach learners in grade 6 about the concept of plagiarism. So we can ask Gemini to create either an interactive story linked to real life examples or create interactive flash cards or create scenarios linked to real life to teach about plagiarism. Either way it is empowering like anything! it takes learning beyond textbooks and classroom walls. It is a positive step towards ensuring learners develop a deeper understanding of the taught concepts. It is moving away from memorising the concepts.
I was awe inspired by the two additional features added to Gemini ! Read Aloud and Q/A. I can come up with dozens of examples of how both the learners and teachers can tremendously benefit from these additional features in uncountable ways!
Happy Exploring 🙂
Regards and prayers
