Can we restrict students from recording the name pronunciation?

Under account settings, personal info, name and pronunciation, there is an option to RECORD your name.

I can't find an admin control setting to turn this off for students.

Did anyone else know this option was even out there?

I will definitely have students who will not actually record their names, and use it as a way to goof off and record inappropriate things.

The announcement says it's OFF by default, so I assume there is a way to toggle it?  But I've just spent some time looking in the console and can't seem to find any setting for it.

Re it being "fundamentally a good thing", yes, but there will always be those few students who abuse it and record not-their-name.  Personally though, I'd still turn it on for everyone, and deal with the exceptions. We already live in a world where "the few" continually ruin things for "the many", so maybe the few just need to be pulled into line.

I did not know this was possible.  Kids are definitely going to abuse the recording feature. I sure hope this can be disabled centrally.

According to this Help article, name pronunciation is not available is not available for Google Workspace for Education.

According to my own two eyes and testing with a chromebook in my Workspace for Education Plus domain, students most certainly CAN record their name.

I can also confirm from my testing that staff and students are able to record their name in our Google Workspace for Education Plus domain.

So somehow (magically) the option is no longer there for me since I created the support ticket.  Can someone with an EDU domain confirm the same?

Yup, it's gone from our domain now as well.

I don't think I've EVER had that quick of a resolution from Google support.........................EVER.

There is now an admin setting for Name Pronunciation.

And this can be set on a group level, which could be useful to stop/prevent abuse by students.
