Why It Belongs in Back-to-School Planning
Starting the year strong means equipping students with the thinking skills they actually need now. AI-generated content moves faster than students can verify it, and that has real consequences: misinformation spreads, reputations get damaged, and it gets harder to separate a compelling story from a true one. Teaching evidence-based reasoning in the first weeks does double duty: it builds critical thinking skills for every subject, and it signals that your classroom values questions over quick judgments.

At Intel Skills for Innovation, we have partnered with Dell Technologies to release a Deepfake Detective Starter Pack, a hands-on lesson for students ages 14 to 19 that turns media literacy into an investigation instead of a lecture. Students take on the role of Digital Forensics Investigators and learn that no single technique, not even AI-assisted analysis, can settle the question alone. Students are able to draw conclusions that require multiple sources of evidence. The lesson also runs locally on student devices rather than uploading images externally, opening a natural conversation about privacy alongside the forensic skills themselves.
Providing students with an opportunity to explore this kind of lesson with the guidance of a teacher - and strong resources - is a win for everyone in this confusing digital world.
