Hello, Global GEG!

We are entering our second week of Educator Well-Being month. Last week, we discussed "Quieting the Noise" to protect our mental space. This week, we’re talking about the antidote to one of the most draining parts of teaching: Isolation.

Teaching can often feel like being on an island, especially when you are the only one in your building trying a new AI tool or advocate for a specific pedagogical shift. But as we approach International Day of Families this Friday, we want to celebrate a different kind of family—our Professional Learning Family.

In 2026, well-being isn't just about "self-care"; it’s about community-care. It’s about knowing that when you hit a wall, there is a "little home" in the Global GEG where someone has already built a ladder.

Grounding Our Vision
We are grounding this week’s work in the UNESCO report Protecting Professional Teachers, Protecting Education. UNESCO reminds us that a teacher’s mental health is a global educational priority. When we foster "healthy, resilient teachers," we create "healthy, resilient classrooms." By leaning on each other, we ensure that no educator has to carry the weight of the classroom alone.

How Might We Lean into Our Global Family?

  • The "Shared Brain": Why start from scratch? Use Google Drive Shared Drives within your local GEGs to house "well-being templates"—things like pre-made parent newsletters or automated rubric drafts—so that the whole community can save time together.
  • Synchronous Support: In what ways can we use the new customizable meeting notes in Google Meet to keep our "Coffee & Connect" sessions stress-free? Let AI capture the notes so you can focus entirely on the human connection during your GEG meetups.
  • A Nudge for You: This Friday, celebrate International Day of Families by setting a boundary. Use the Google Calendar "Work Location" feature to show your team when you are working from home and prioritize a "family dinner" (biological or chosen!) without checking your notifications.

Gemini Practical Tip: The Community Connector When you’re looking to spark a meaningful conversation in your local GEG home, try this prompt in Gemini:

"I want to host a 20-minute virtual 'Well-Being Check-in' for my local Google Educator Group. Can you suggest 3 'icebreaker' questions that focus on celebrating small wins and 3 collaborative Google Jamboard ideas that allow us to share our favorite time-saving tips?"

Your Turn to Lead the Conversation: Who is in your "Professional Family"? Is there a fellow GEG member or a colleague who has helped you through a tough week this year? Tag them in the comments or share a "Community Win" that reminded you that you aren't on this island alone!
