In my experience, continuity comes from standardizing the learner-facing scaffolding while leaving the teaching method entirely to the instructor. Three layers have worked best.
1. A shared module skeleton (template). Every module uses the same one-page "module map": learning outcomes, weekly rhythm, assessment types with weightings, deadlines, and the instructor's communication norms (response time, preferred channel). In the LMS, the folder structure, naming conventions and weekly layout are identical. Inside that frame, the instructor chooses lectures, case studies, flipped sessions or labs.
2. Common rubric spine with module-specific criteria. Rather than one rubric for everyone, I use a shared core (for example, argumentation, evidence use, communication, and reflection) on a common 4-level scale, plus 1โ2 criteria the instructor adds for their discipline. Students then see familiar performance language across modules, and each faculty member still assesses what matters in their subject. Mapping each module's outcomes to the programme-level outcomes (COโPO) also makes the whole course read as one journey.
3. Cross-faculty onboarding and handover.
- A 60โ90 minute onboarding for incoming instructors covering the template, rubric spine and LMS conventions.
- A short "handover note" from the outgoing to the incoming instructor: what students just learned, common misconceptions, and skills to build on.
- A brief "bridge activity" in week one of each module that recalls the previous module's ideas.
- A course coordinator who does a light-touch alignment check, not a content review.
4. Feedback loops. A short mid-module pulse survey (2โ3 questions on clarity and workload) and a post-semester debrief where faculty jointly revise the template. Because instructors help shape the template, it feels like a shared tool rather than a compliance requirement.
The guiding principle is to reduce navigational and assessment friction, which is extraneous cognitive load, without touching pedagogical voice, which is where each expert adds value.
