Teachers are not OK: The Implications for AI Usage Among Students

Realmente me encantó leer este artículo, reflexioné a partir de las diferentes opiniones sobre las implicancias sobre el uso de las IA, me sentí identificada con varios de los profesores que presentaron sus opiniones. Definitivamente, los objetivos educativos han cambiado de giro y los efectos que impactan en los profesores, quienes fuimos preparados para ser los facilitadores del aprendizaje con preguntas indagadoras, capaces de experiencias significativas para fomentar el pensamiento crítico y creativo en el desarrollo de habilidades de comunicación, investigación, sociales y de autogestión, hoy en dia  una tarea muy retadora con el uso de la IA, que está al alcance de todos. Como se menciona en este articulo, los profesores nos enfrentamos a jóvenes de la Generación Z y la Generación Alfa analfabetos funcionales, escazos de vocabulario y comprensión lectora, en su lengua materna y frágiles para adquirir otra lengua, lo cierto es que redireccionar los objetivos educativos es una necesidad global. La importancia de promover una educación hacia una enseñanza auténtica basada en situaciones reales, para preparar seres humanos capaces de desarrollar soluciones auténticas sobre las problemáticas reales en un mundo lleno de desafíos, haciéndolos conscientes y capaces de usar como lo es la IA, una herramienta artificial, es un desafio para la educación en esta era de nuevos descubrimientos tecnológicos, como lo fue en su época, del pictograma hacia el alfabeto, nace la escritura como para registrar información, transferencia de ideas o pensamientos orales hacia lo escrito, luego de la imprenta hacia internet y hoy de la inteligencia capacidad mental hacia la inteligencia artificial.  Hoy en día todo un reto para los profesores, enseñar a los alumnos generar ideas, pensamientos, soluciones auténticas, reales usando recursos artificiales como la IA, para resolver, reorganizar, crear, estructurar, etc las ideas o soluciones, lo que está generando una dependencia en la capacidad para desarrollar habilidades humanas de pensar, analizar y proponer soluciones, lo que impacta en los alumnos, porque el mal uso de la IA, teniéndola como a disposición nos lleva a enfrentar los vacios o ausencia de creaciones humanas originales de los alumnos. Los profesores debemos estar alertas a las implicancias, sabiendo que el cerebro tiende a adaptarse al menor esfuerzo mental, lo que limita el desarrollo de habilidades.

Thanks for your thoughts! I completely agree that AI is changing education, presenting both challenges and opportunities.

You're right – our role as facilitators of learning focused on critical and creative thinking is more vital than ever. The idea that students might struggle with basic literacy is concerning, underscoring the need to rethink educational goals globally. We have to move towards authentic teaching, preparing students to solve real-world problems.

AI is just the latest tool in a long line of technological advancements. The key is teaching students to think with AI, using it to enhance their own ideas, not replace their cognitive effort. Your point about the brain's tendency towards "least mental effort" is spot on; we need to design learning that fosters deep thinking and original creation.

This is a challenging but exciting time to be in education!

Thank you for your reflection.  I agree that there are both challenges and opportunities with leveraging AI in the classroom and a big part of moving forward is to demystify what Ai is and is not.  It is here to stay and we need to assist educators in understanding how to use it for themselves to create more time for facilitating learning and to amplify and accelerate learning by assisting students with their thinking, not replacing it.

I see this technology as a way to level the playing field, so to speak, and to really start making gains towards more equitable access and opportunities for all students.
