Anyone else get this email, I am not sure exactly what it is doing. Is this for classroom meets or the meets that teachers might create for their students? Righ now, we are supposed to have where only teachers/staff can create a meet and students can only join a chat that has been create by staff or teachers. But it looks like this might be changing that?
Thoughts?
Dear EDU Administrator,
Starting April 2024, Google Meet will allow outside domains to place Meet calls that reach your institution’s domain. To help protect your institution’s domain from unwanted external contact, we are adding a control that restricts incoming calls. This call restrictions control will be on by default.
What does this mean for your institution?
The incoming call restrictions control can impact who can call your institution’s users. The control settings will be updated to determine which calls are received by the user in Google Meet.
Learn more about call restrictions.
What do you need to do?
If you do nothing, the default setting will be on, allowing only those who are in a user's contacts (contacts.google.com) as well as those within that institution to call that user. All other calls will be restricted.
To allow callers outside your institution the ability to call your users, or to block all Google Meet calls from reaching your users, the setting must be updated.
From the Google Meet admin panel, determine which setting is best for your users:
(Default) Users receive calls only from contacts and other users in the institution
Users can receive calls from anyone
Users can’t receive calls
Note: This setting affects only Google Meet calling, not legacy services or calling in Google Chat. This also does not affect the ability to join meetings. This will restrict mobile calling and web calling (when available). Restrictions set in Access can further limit the calls that users can receive.
