Make "add new desk" configurable (ie. - disableable)

There are presently no easily configurable, admin console controls to prevent students from opening multiple desks (desktops) in Chrome. We would welcome a change as it would prevent students from being off task and quickly concealing their tracks with a rapid, keystroke desk change. There is an open recommendation over in the Google Cloud community,

https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/Managed-Chromebooks-block-multiple-desks/idc-p...
asking that the desk feature be made configurable and capable of being disabled. It seems like this would be ideal if as other browser settings, the feature can be enabled/disabled by OU.

The issue is going on two years old with very little movement or interest. If you would find this feature useful or if you would like to support those who feel that it would help, please make your way over to the link above and register your opinion. Thanks, all.

Please! I keep getting reports that students are allegedly using multiple desktops to skirt monitoring/access things they shouldn't and I can never seem to reproduce these antics myself. Being able to shut down the feature entirely would be beneficial.

Need to figure out how to join the Cloud community though...

Hmm still can't access the specific topic but I guess I'm properly logged in now. Poking around some more.

You have to apply to join that section.

Google really needs to take action on popular Feature Ideas.

Bringing attention to those specific to education in this community helps.

Right, @Kristal ?

I keep saying everywhere I can that Google needs to stop introducing features that the admin can't disable. Especially in education, but definitely in general too. There are so many instances of features that should not always be available unless the admin enables it. Several them purely legal, others nuisances.

Please, can we get an update on this... it has been 13 months and the original idea link for voting is no longer available.

Yeah, GCC is dead, and some of it has moved on to https://discuss.google.dev - but the Feature Ideas section is no more.

You can register it as an Issue on the chromium dev forum, and hopefully get some upvotes there.
