Sharing insight into an amazing online session with a fantastic group of individuals mostly School Principals, Vice Principals and School Coordinators using Google NotebookLM. The session focused on empowering school leaders with AI tools that can enable them to do their tasks more effectively and efficiently. The session was created in Google Sites with attendance forms and feedback forms created in Google Forms. The session was delivered online using Google Meet. Around 38 to 40 participants joined the session online. The interesting part I created the session tasks using the NotebookLM. We started by asking participants to share an analogy that describes their role with AI. Shared an example about instead of using a manual map we start using the GPS, the GPS is the AI. The school leader is driving the car and deciding the destination but AI the GPS finds the fastest routes for syllabus coverage, alerting to traffic jams in student behaviour, and providing data driven re routing when a conflict arises. The participants could come up with some awesome analogies like a chef in a kitchen, a mechanic with tools, a gardener , a pilot of a plan with an auto pilot, a sailor sailing the ship and so on. It pondered them to think out of the box.
The next task was to use AI tools like Google NotebookLM to sort the checklist of roles and responsibilities of school leaders into high impact and low impact jobs, and identify the need for AI to automate these tasks. This was followed by a discussion how automating tasks will empower school leaders. The participants were able to see how prioritising tasks can help them focus more on pertinent matters. In the next tasks participants uploaded a resource like a textbook to create three different levels of assessments (above average, average and below average) learners based on the result analysis of ongoing revision and test sessions. Then participants were asked to create flash cards and infographics of various topics in the book. They found it utterly amazing. Participants were able to create and shared very interesting infographics.
In the next task participants selected a task from a choice board and shared their feedback in the group. The choice board was created in a Google doc. Every participant could select their own activity. It was a student centred lesson where participants explored and practically performed all tasks online. In the end all participants were asked to share a star idea from the whole session. A number of participants shared various ideas they liked in the session.
What I liked most was the use of analogies to understand the various tasks, it helped understand even the challenging tasks. I also liked the use of choice boards which had a mix of simple and challenging tasks. And the tasks where participants had to create differentiated assessment based on actual result analysis.
Overall the feedback was very positive and participants were awe inspired by the features of the various AI tools specifically Google NotebookLM. Google Notebook can actually take teaching and learning to a whole new level which was not possible before. It was great to see participants exploring the various features.
Happy Reading 🙂
