Had time so started exploring the online course on "Get Started with Google AI in K12 Education" available for free on the Google Teacher Center. Must say it is a wonderful course with practical ideas on how to use Gemini to make your teaching and learning more creative, innovative, interactive and engaging. Anyone can start doing the course and even practice the prompts simultaneously in Gemini. Sharing some great ideas here:

Gemini can be used to write creative writing prompts to enhance creative writing skills of learners. These can be for any grade. For example I gave Gemini the following prompt:

"Generate 3 to 5 prompts for learners in grade 7 about the ending of the story in Lord of the rings movie - third part encouraging them to write the beginning for the fourth part of the movie , emphasising gandalf and the role of the elfs - 50 to 100 words prompt for grade 6 learners" and it came up with three fantastic prompts. Imagine your learners writing the nest part of a famous book or movie. Imagine all 30 learners coming up with different versions and reading it aloud in class. These could be uploaded in the Google Classroom for teachers to comment or even shared on a classroom blog for a wider audience.

You could also upload a research article downloaded from Google Scholar and ask Gemini to summarise key points in the paper. If you cannot download the paper, you can share the link of the article and Gemini will still share key points or summarise the article for you.

You could also ask Gemini to create different versions of an assessment for your learners on any topic. It depends how you unleash your creativity. For example, I asked Gemini to create three different versions of an assessment on verbs for grade - a simple assessment for beginners, a little challenging for learners with good understanding and a difficult versions for learners with a sound and thorough understanding of verbs. The prompt was as follows:

"Generate three different versions of the assessment for grade 3 on verbs - with 5 mcqs each. A simple assessment for beginners with links to real life examples, a second versions with links to science concepts like water cycle and photosynthesis for challenging learners, and a third version for advanced learners linked to Physics concepts like atoms with answer keys."

The good thing Gemini was able to understand that incorporating Physics concepts at grade 3 level might challenging for the learners, so therefore it creates the third version of the assessment but in ways that the learners can comprehend and understand. But this is a very creative way to teach concepts from different subjects together.

Interestingly I asked Gemini to create 5 different flash cards for early years about sounds of various letters with a particular format for the flash cards. It was able to create 5 different interesting flash cards that teachers can print and display in the classroom or keep in the flash cards box. The prompt was as follows:

"Generate 5 flash cards for learners in early years to learn the sounds of letters - card 1 Front name of letter a , Back ant image with sound, Card 2 Front - Name of letter J , Back jet with an image and sound". Gemini is a text based AI so it was not able to create sounds or images but it created cards and identified the placement of the content and content on the cards which is a lot helpful for teachers in early years since they make a lot of colourful flash cards.

It was great exploring the wonderful activities teachers can create for their learners using Google Gemini. Looking forward to sharing more ideas in the next post soon InnShaaAllah.

Happy reading!
