Chromebooks shutting down on lid close

I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has seen this problem at the start of the School year. It seems like it's gotten less but I am still having teachers place tickets in saying that their student Chromebooks are shutting down and forcing the students back to the initial login screen on their Chromebooks despite us having Google Admin set to only put the Chromebook to sleep when the lid is closed. With younger grade levels this has added more time attempting to have students sign back in again.

I looked at some of the power logs on Chromebooks having this problem earlier in September and I was noticing that a lot of them were getting updates while the lid was closed and that a reboot was occuring when this happening. So basically I'm just looking to see if anyone else is seeing similar issues where lid close action is set to sleep but that their Chromebooks are actually shutting down. We are seeing this primarily on our Dell 3100 2in1 fleet.

Yep.  Have had this issue for a year now.  Nothing I do seems to help. Powerwashes, resets, updates, nothing.

Have you opened a case yet? If you have please use Alt+Shift+i on a Chomebook affected and add in the case number. Support will want logs to determine what is happening. Also helpful to ensure the fleet is on LTS or the most recent stable version of ChromeOS.

I did create an initial support case, however, the technician requested that I powerwash the test Chromebook I had on hand and was hesitant even when I asked if they would like the logs I collected. Ultimately powerwashing one Chromebook does me little good because I cannot reproduce the problem on a single device. The issue occurs at random in various classrooms. Some may have no issues while others may report two or four students encountered it. Its appears to be at complete random. Right now my Chromebooks are updating to version 117 but I'll look into having the Chromebooks set to the latest LTS afterwards.
