Cast Moderator

Has anyone had any real success using Cast Moderator?

I purchased one of the new cast devices and went through all the steps of setting it up, but it still seems clunky and doesn't really give us any additional control versus using a plain old chromecast device.

Or am I missing something?

It's locked down so that additional apps cannot be installed on the chromecast.

I believe it also provides some user privacy in regards to data collection.

It's basically a stripped down version of a chromecast that is EDU compliant.  It provides screen mirroring, and that's about it.

Success, yes.  But it depends on what your goal is.  We've deployed 10-15 of them with pretty good success for screen mirroring and casting.

We have about 100 of them in our system. What is nice is that you don't see a huge list of chromecasts as a teacher. You only see the ones you have connected with using the code in your list. You also don't have the ads that the new chromecasts have.

We have had these devices for several years now, but this school year we have struggled with them. The code doesn't stay in the computer for the year we have it set up for. We also have had the computers randomly disconnect from the devices. We've had to restart the devices regularly or the codes don't work.

We haven't had a network person on staff in the last year, so we aren't sure if there is an issue with our network or something going on with these devices. If anyone has any ideas, we are open to them as we really like the features that cast moderator gives us but we have been struggling with them this year.

Yes, that is what I too was recently experiencing with the single cast moderator setup I created.

Random disconnects and codes not being saved as expected.
