All Workspace administrators within the EU region should have received an email about this, referring to a new EU law, DMA. Here's a copy of the email.
tl;dr: You may need to force a setting for default search engine, if you don't want your users to have to choose one.
Here's the direct link to the relevant setting.

Recent changes to European law will impact the Google Account service settings of your institution. Dear EDU Administrator, Due to recent changes in European law, we have been rolling out updates to customers. People and businesses in Europe have already experienced some of these updates since early March, with more coming into effect throughout the rest of the year. What does this mean for my institution?- Additional consents for linked services: Users will have the option to link certain Google services. Linked Google services can share data with each other and with all other Google services for certain purposes. All types of data described in Google's Privacy Policy can be shared across linked Google services. This includes activity data when a user’s signed in, such as things they search for and the videos they watch and listen to.
- Choice screens: Starting in Chrome 124, Google is introducing choice screens for users to choose their default search engine within Chrome. The choice from the prompt will control the default search engine setting, currently available at chrome://settings/search. For enterprises that have chosen to have their administrator set the enterprise users’ DefaultSearchProviderSearchURL settings using the enterprise policies DefaultSearchProviderEnabled and DefaultSearchProviderSearchURL, those policies will continue to control their enterprise’s search settings. Where the administrator has not set the enterprise users’ search settings by policy, those users might see a prompt to choose their default search engine within Chrome. If the policies are unset today, the user is able to change their default search engine and any related settings.
- Google SafeSearch, a mature content filter for Google Search that is enabled by default for K-12 Edu users signed into Chrome and ChromeOS, will continue to work on Google Search, but does not cover third party search engines.
- Data portability: To expand users’ ability to move copies of their data, Google will offer the option to share a copy of your data with a third party for use with that service. This option will be available for supported countries and regions and adds to what can already be done by all users with Google Takeout. Certain data and info related to the security of a user’s account, such as passwords, are not available to be copied and moved to a third-party service.
What do I need to do?Review and verify your institution’s policy settings in the Admin console. If your institution needs to change or set up new policies, see the below controls available: Thanks for choosing ChromeOS for Education. – Google for Education Team |

This is not only relevant for Education administrators, and I received two emails, with one not referring to EDU.
