Resource: Using AI to Ask Better Questions

One of the biggest takeaways from our recent workshops was that AI can be most useful before we ever start searching for solutions.

In our sessions, leaders used AI to help them reframe problems, identify assumptions, and explore root causes before moving into planning. The goal wasn't to let AI solve the problem. The goal was to use it as a thought partner while keeping human judgment at the center of the process.

Try This (10 minutes)

Choose a challenge you're currently facing.

Open your preferred AI tool and share:

  • Your role
  • Your school context
  • The challenge you're experiencing

Then ask:

"I've described this challenge based on how I currently see it. Offer me two or three alternative ways of framing this problem that I may not have considered. Ask me one question that would help me think about it more deeply. Do not offer solutions yet."

This prompt is adapted from a strategy we used in our recent leadership workshops.

Reflection

Before accepting the response, ask yourself:

  • Is this accurate and grounded in my reality?
  • Whose perspective is missing?
  • What assumptions is the AI making?

Those three questions became some of the most powerful parts of our workshop conversations.
