Over the past few weeks, you’ve been building awareness. You’ve surfaced patterns, listened more closely, and started to see what might be sitting beneath everyday moments in your school.
This week is about translating that awareness into action, in a way that feels manageable and visible.
One challenge many leaders run into is this:
Even when you know what matters, it’s not always clear where to start.
This short activity is designed to help you make a focused, intentional choice.
Try This: The “Start Small, Signal Big” Reflection
Take 5–10 minutes to think through the following:
1. Name it clearly
What is one specific issue, pattern, or moment you’ve been noticing?
Try to describe it in one sentence.
2. Make it actionable
What is one small action you could take in the next week related to this?
Focus on something within your control.
3. Consider the signal
If you take this action, what message might it send to your teachers?
What will they see or feel differently?
Optional AI Boost
If you’d like a thought partner to help you refine your thinking, you can use a generative AI tool (like ChatGPT or Gemini) to push your reflection a bit further.
You might try a prompt like:
“I’m a school leader noticing this pattern: [insert your situation]. I want to take a small, meaningful action that improves teacher experience. Can you suggest 2–3 small actions I could take this week and what message each action might send to staff?”
Or:
“Here’s an action I’m considering: [insert action]. What are the possible positive and unintended signals this might send to teachers?”
As you review the response, use your judgment and context. The goal isn’t to follow the AI’s suggestions exactly, but to use them to sharpen your thinking and consider perspectives you might not have named yet.
Optional Deep Dive
If you want to go a bit further, this short article connects to the idea of aligning your daily actions with your leadership priorities:

As you read, consider:
- Where are your current habits already aligned with what you value?
- Where might there be a gap between what you say matters and what your actions show?
Small, thoughtful actions can have an outsized impact when they are visible and consistent.
This week isn’t about solving everything.
It’s about choosing one place to begin.
