Weirdness with ChromeOS and Cameras?

Greetings all,

I'm curious whether anyone has noticed weirdness with their document cameras, or any cameras for that matter, on ChromeOS since 12/4/25? In our case we've been using various doc cams with IPEVO's Visualizer via their web URL but it stopped working for us on Thursday with ChromeOS, even the one IPEVO doc cam (VZ-R) we have stopped working. The VZ-R worked just fine via a Windows laptop though I haven't been able to grab one of the other doc cams to try on Windows due to timing and not having any more spares.

IPEVO support did give me a firmware file for their doc cam that made it work properly with ChromeOS but I started messing with a external Nexigo webcam that I did have and noticed that it was having trouble even connecting to the built in Camera app on a chromebook. Takes several minutes for it to show an image. Sometimes I can get the built in webcam to show up in the IPEVO Visualizer.

Our ChromeOS devices are on LTS 138.

We were having the same issue with Hovercam, would not connect to the internal camera on our ChromeOS Flex boxes. After reaching out to hovercam we were told it was a bug with their pwa app. Perhaps it is a Chrome bug and not a bug with the app.

Yea its just a weird situation. Could be both, just odd for it to be entirely a ChromeOS issue if the doc cam firmware that fixed it was over a year old. Even more weird as we're on LTS so theoretically there shouldn't be any changes except for security reasons.

We have had this same issue with our IPEVO cameras with no solution.  Did you just submit a support ticket and they sent the firmware?

Try looking on the product page, there should be a section for Firmware Update. If not then try contacting support. I went to support first as I wasn't even thinking of this as a firmware issue especially since the firmware they directed me to was over a year old but it worked.

Were having the same issue on Chromebooks and windows 11 devices with all camera models.

I found this same problem on Reddit and they suggested using https://camerastudio.app/ instead of Visualizer.  It has fixed our problems.
