Lock files more easily in Google Drive

Rolling out from yesterday. Anyone have it yet?

No admin controls and school children......? Locking documents. Mmmmmm

 

I never said we wouldn't have to give feedback to Google about it. 🙂

From what I can tell (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) - you could always do this by changing the share link to view only - this is just a faster way of doing that. So no new power to students, but possibly a way to do this more easily.

Currently, I have Approvals in the spot where Lock is supposed to appear.

On one hand neat, on the other hand oh the antics students could get up to. The announcement doesn't seem to specify whether it has to be the one that locked it to unlock it or if anyone with edit access can unlock it. I'm hoping it's the later.

One place antics won't come from is Google Classroom. That switches ownership back and forth between student and teacher.

A fairly safe assumption should be that the file owner is always able to manage locked status.
