Hi All!
Hope your doing well ! have news for all passionate Googlers out there! Did you know that a new feature "Video" has been added to the tools list in the Gemini chat box. Was exploring today and here are the details. You can select the Video feature from the Tools list. The next step is to add a detailed description about the video, the content, the characters, the environment, resources in the environment etc.
For example I wrote a detailed description of a classroom with primary learners grade 2 studying about nouns, and a learner explaining about the nouns with examples to another learner. There is a teacher providing support to learners and helping them understand the nouns with examples. It tool Gemini a few minutes but it was able to create a video with two learners explaining the concept of nouns with examples. Now this is something wonderful! Imagine if your learners and even teachers were empowered to create videos to understand difficult or challenging concepts in different subjects.
Now let us explore another new feature "Guided Learning" added to the tools list in the Gemini chat box. You can enable it in similar ways. You will open the gemini link and in the chat box, select guided learning from the set of tools. The tools in the gemini chat now include the following: Deep research, Canvas, Guided Learning, Images with Imagen and Video. Each of these is a very helpful feature in extending learning beyond classroom walls. It will truly empower teachers and learners in numerous ways.
I tried exploring about the "Digestive System" in humans and how could guided learning feature empower teachers and learners. And i also tried to search the same topic without the guided learning feature in Gemini. Some clear differences but clearly guided learning has an edge. For example when I started exploring the "Digestive System" , Gemini provides information about the digestive system but with a list of questions that help the learner dig deeper in the concept. So learners respond to the questions and Gemini moves the conversation forward. It is a conversation thread. Gemini keeps providing information in multimodal ways. It explains the resources like the videos, images etc.
Without the guided learning feature , gemini does provide details about a topic for examples digestive system. It also provides helpful videos, images and text too. But it is not in a conversation style. It gives you the initial information about a topic that you can easily Google too. And if you need more information about a topic, you have to write another query or question about the topic in the gemini chat box.
It is like an actual classroom where learners keep asking questions and the teacher responds to them one by one. Now imagine every learner could explore the concepts further and extend their learning using the guided learning feature enabled in the Google Classroom. The teacher may need to do the usual explaining with examples using the interactive white board, multimedia projectors, or white boards or videos etc. But then she/he can empower learners by encouraging them to explore the topic further through guided learning. In the end of the class the learners recap the learning instead of the teacher. It is literally about giving control and ownership of learning back in the hands of the learners. I would be super proud of my learners in class! and even myself as a fantastic teacher ๐
Happy reading ๐
