When I was in the classroom, approaching my principal with a suggestion usually meant I had thought about it for a while. Most days were already full, and speaking up wasn’t about preference; it was often about something that was getting in the way of doing my best for students.
In schools, teachers sometimes ask for things that sound small on the surface: a tweak to a schedule, clearer expectations, more notice, fewer last-minute changes. It can be easy to hear these as minor requests in the middle of an already busy day. But often, those “small” asks are pointing to something bigger underneath like workload, clarity, trust, or the need to feel supported.
