Over the past several weeks, we have been paying close attention to moments inside our schools. Small signals. Conversations. Patterns that reveal something about the experience teachers are having.
This week I want to step back and look at the bigger picture for a moment.
Across the country, school leaders are working hard to understand why teachers stay and why they leave. Some reasons are obvious. Others are more subtle and show up through daily experiences inside a school.
Before looking at any research, it can be interesting to pause and check our own instincts as leaders.
โก๏ธ If you had to name the top reasons teachers leave schools today, what would you put on that list?
You do not need a perfect answer. Just share what your experience is telling you.
Reply in the comments with one or two reasons you believe contribute most to teacher turnover in schools today.
Later this week, we will look at what the research says and see how it compares to what leaders are noticing in their own buildings.
