I'm a school IT Manager, we found an initial use for NotebookLM as a front end for our system documentation. The 50 docs restriction is limiting and requires us to combine certain documents to stay within that limit. It would also be good if NotebookLM automatically refreshed documents. But as is it works well.

Being able to use an LM to ask questions about our systems has proven very helpful. Some information is contained within multiple documents, ie different systems can send emails and have different set ups, should that be documented in an email doco or with each system? With NotebookLM it doesn't matter.

I also found NotebookLM analyses images and extracts text from it which is then included as normal content.

Exploring the wonders of Google Notebook and how it can help transform your teaching and learning in classrooms and schools. It is important to understand that Google for Education tools can empower all educators at the same time provided we have a through understanding of the tools, its features and how can we create diversified content using these tools.

Lets explore the Google Notebook and how it can empower educators working at different levels. A google notebook has three sections namely a source section, a chat section and a studio section. Educators can upload all resources including text books, curriculum documents, lesson plans, summaries , video in the source section. In the chat section, educators can ask questions, analyse the content uploaded, create summaries of chapters, create lesson plans based on text book content, create differentiated assessment for their learners based on assessments and much more. They can save all this content as notes. In the studio section, educators can create audio conversation led by two hosts who discuss the content uploaded. Educators can also join these conversations and contribute. What makes these conversations amazing is that the hosts appreciate your input and encourage you to contribute to conversations.

Now let us look into how a google notebook can benefit all of these educators!

Notebook for Teachers - let think of a scenario where a English language teacher plans to use google notebook with her learners. She has created a google notebook and plans to use this with her learners. She has uploaded the English curriculum documents including the text book , chapter summaries, assessments and a novel in the sources section of the notebook. She has added learners who can view all content.

While in class the learners open their laptops or chrome books, they open their notebook and access the chapter. They read along and identify difficult words while reading and use the notebook to find meanings of difficult words. They can write summaries or key points learned during the session and save them as notes.

Teachers can open a novel in notebook. Learners read the chapter in notebook. Learners can also contribute while discussing a character in a novel. They can create a character sketch and save as notes.

Teacher can check their knowledge and understanding of the novel by asking questions in the chat section, where learners can respond.

Notebook for School Leaders - Let us consider another scenario where a school leader has been tasked to work on an upcoming school conference. It is an online conference and the school leader has to plan events, assign roles and responsibilities, create topic lists, schedules of presentations, sending invites to parents and learners, manage all efficiently and effectively. How can a Google Notebook help here.

The school leader will create a Google Notebook, add all staff in the notebook. And upload sources such as roles and responsibilities document, list of projects, success criteria for projects, calendar or schedule of meetings, videos of past events, images of past events, school layout plans , time tables of classes etc

The school leader can then schedule a Google Meet and explain the notebook to staff, and assign tasks to them for example every class will prepare a presentation for the parents on different topics, these will be uploaded for review in the Notebook sources section. The success criteria can be found in the Notebook sources section.

Every week the whole team meets and review progress on projects and uploads relevant content in notebook. Meeting notes are saved in notebook.

All projects are reviewed in the notebook and then approved for presentation to parents online. Can be in person as well. This notebook serves as a digital repository of resources and also a digital portfolio for the school leader.

Notebook for Learners - Let us consider another scenario, where teachers have created a notebook for every learner that needs additional help and support in their studies. A teacher created a notebook for Science for a few students. She has uploaded science lesson plans, tasks and activities, assessments for her learners on difficult topics in the text book.

She holds a google meet every week to discuss a chapter, learners post questions in the notebook chat section and she responds to them.

Learners respond to assessment questions in the chat box. They write key points learned from every session and save them in notes in notebook.

Learners can also create mind maps for different topics and save them in notes.

Learners can create time lines to revise their lessons.

Learners can translate difficult topics into different languages to understand.

Learners can also create assessments for themselves to revise topics taught in class.

Every work the learners do in a notebook is saved as a digital portfolio which can be shared with parents in parent teacher meetings.

Learners can also upload their tasks to notebook if teacher approves and discuss questions in the chat section.

Thats from my side and now I would look forward to all fantastic educators in this group to share their ideas of how they can incorporate the amazing google notebook in the classrooms and schools with their learners. Share an idea, a thought, a scenario ! how you could transform your schools with the amazing google notebook.

Looking forward to reading your fantastic ideas!

Happy reading!

Regards and prayers

Sheeba Ajmal

Thank you for sharing how you are using NotebookLM in education! I'm really inspired by this!!!!

I've heard many leaders use NotebookLM to upload their board documents to produce a podcast that is then placed on the school website so the community can easily listen in a user friendly way. There are so many examples of consolidating and synthesizing resources ~ it's endless.

How are others using NotebookLM?
