Early in my career, I was a "one-size-fits-all" teacher. 👟

I used to believe that if I delivered a solid lesson, it was up to the students to keep up. I taught the same content, the same way, to every learner. I thought that was "fair."

I was wrong.

Over 15 years in the classroom—and now as a Google Certified Trainer—I’ve realized that "fair" isn’t giving everyone the same thing; it’s giving everyone what they need to succeed. With today’s focus on inclusion, I’ve had to evolve. My role is no longer just delivering a curriculum; it’s about intentional differentiation.

But let's be real: differentiating for a full class manually is a mountain of work. This is where Google Workspace for Education becomes the "tailor" in my classroom.

How I’m intentionally breaking the "one-size-fits-all" mold using Google Classroom:

🎯 Precision Assigning: I no longer blast one assignment to the whole class. I use the "Individual Students" dropdown to discreetly send scaffolded versions of a Doc to those who need support, and extension tasks to those ready to fly. No one feels singled out; they just feel met where they are.

📊 Classroom Analytics & Insights: I don’t have to guess who is struggling. I use the built-in analytics to see real-time engagement. It allows me to pivot my instruction mid-lesson, providing an extra "shoe size" check before a student falls behind.

🗣️ The Multi-Modal Response: Inclusion means giving students a choice in how they speak. In my class, one student might submit a written essay in Docs, while another uses the native multimedia recorder in Classroom to submit a video explanation. Both are showing mastery—just through different lenses.

💻 Chromebooks as "Training Wheels": On our managed Chromebooks, I use Class Tools to share exemplary student work directly to everyone's screens or provide live translated captions for learners who need that extra language bridge.

By planning for different needs, we give every learner a chance to feel a sense of achievement. That "win" builds the self-esteem and confidence they need to stay motivated.

It took time to shift my mindset, but seeing the lightbulb go off in a student who used to feel "invisible" makes every bit of extra planning worth it.

To my fellow educators: We’ve moved past the era of the one-size-fits-all lesson plan. How are you using Google tools to make your classroom more inclusive this year? 👇

#GoogleEducator #GoogleCertifiedTrainer #EdTech #InclusiveEducation #GoogleClassroom #Differentiation #TeachingJourney #Pedagogy #GrowthMindset
