Gopher for Chrome- Worth it?

I'm doing a lot of device and user cleanup this summer, and Gopher would really help me move faster and at scale. Does anyone have pricing or privacy info on this tool? Anecdotes welcome too.

We use it. It certainly makes provisioning, inventorying, and assigning students to chromebooks a breeze. That being said, we don't use it much outside of summer provisioning.

I think we pay about $600 for it, but we are also a small school. I think this is priced by school size but don't recall off the top of my head.

I have used the Gopher Tools since they first came out. I personally feel it is worth the price. We pay around 1800 for the entire pack (User, Chrome, Groups, and Gmail).

My free and open source tool CB_Inventory can probably do most of what you want to do with Chromebooks.

The rest you can do with GAM. Easily export any info you want to a Google Sheet, then just as easily manipulate the Sheet and then finish off by not-as-easily 🙂 use the sheet as the source for what GAM should do.

Now that Apps Script is covered under the Core license agreement, I actually just used Gemini to create a sheet and Apps Script that does the chromebook export/import and device OU changes. I'm looking at Apps Scripts to do other admin tasks as well.

Running an export now. Side by side with my CB_Inventory. 😊

Your script starts displaying exported devices faster than mine.👍 At around 6000 devices, my script is catching up, and completes faster. Exporting 10k devices takes 290 seconds for my CB_Inventory and your script completes the job in 450 seconds.

Oh, I recommend you export at least all the attributes you can use in the Update sheet.

Update sheet has columns for the following attributes.

Serial Number, Asset Tag, New Org Unit Path, Notes, User (Email), Location, New Asset Tag

But in the export sheet you only have these attributes.

Serial Number, Asset Tag, Current Org Unit Path, Model, OS Version, Last Sync Time, Status, Notes

Missing the current User and Location. That means you don't know whether those need updating.
