Yeah I would agree, however we've had people go back in their emails to emails from time in memoriam (like 15 years ago) so it's possible, but highly unlikely just because the interface isn't great nor fast going back say 18 months ago if you create a new prompt/chat nearly every other time.. (guilty).. The one portion I am unsure of, is I know this Vault retention is solely for gemini.google.com, and not the "Help me write" gemini prompts, nor the Chrome Ask Gemini. Those (at least the Gmail, Drive, etc.) I _believe_ are covered under retention within that specific app (Gmail for example when helping write an email), but I'm not certain of that..

Happy to see that Gemini chats are being included in Vault.

Note that the only choices are indefinitely, and delete ALL conversations. This misaligns this service's setting with how we choose to implement the other services which is to Purge only deleted items.

I guess this is an acknowledgement that no one is going in and regularly deleting the majority of their chats (perhaps similar to how people treat SMS conversations).

Thank you for sharing this update. As an educator who is currently exploring Gemini for Education, I find conversations about data retention and management increasingly important. It will be interesting to see how schools balance the benefits of AI tools with governance, privacy, and record-keeping requirements. I appreciate the insights shared here.

I agree that all services shold have the option "purge only deleted items". It's annoying that some don't.
