Is there no way to 100% block AI Overview in search for students?

AI mode is blocked by our filter but students still get AI overview any time they search.

I don't think there's an official way to block it. There are some Chrome extensions to block this which might work. For our district, we were uncomfortable deploying an unknown 3rd party app so we're trying to create our own chrome extension to block it on all student devices.

This simple URL Block previously did a decent job.

*?udm=50*

Apparently too good, as I see it is no longer a part of the URL of a search made in the Google field in the middle of the screen of a New Tab.

For a search made in the Omnibox (the address field, up top in Chrome), I push a Google search phrase that forces the use of udm=14, which is the web-only result, without AI.

Here is my value so you can copy it. As you can see, it is only slightly adjusted from the default suggested values.

I agree, it's super annoying, and there should be a simple tickbox in Chrome User Setting to disable it.

We shouldn't have to invent semi-broken workarounds.

Thank you Kim. I am preparing to teach search next year, and I am going to use Duck Duck Go with my primary students who are getting their chromebooks for the first time. 🦆

I'm currently having issues with this on non-Chromebooks.

My test-student account can't do any searches on my Mac without getting a horrible captcha, every time.

Apparently it doesn't happen for real students on Chromebooks.
