One of my high school teachers asked me for advice on creating a Google Form for private student feedback on peers in their small group. The catch is that he wants the feedback to be automatically emailed to the presenter and himself. Any suggestions? I have provided the exact wording from my teacher in his attempt to explain his project.

"I am trying to do something different in senior projects. I want the kids to use a Google Form to evaluate their peers in small groups as to the progress they are making on their projects. I want them to review each other and send those reviews privately to the presenter and to me."

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

In the Form, they would need to provide the email or name of the presenter (if only the name then the Sheet on the backend would need to map to an email address using some reference list). Then I would use Form Mule or Autocrat to send the messages.

If both the teacher and presenter open the form in edit mode, navigate to the 'responses' tab and click on the three menu dots, there's an option to 'get email notifications for new responses'. My understanding is that should do what they need. Happy to be corrected though.

Upvote to the autocrat idea above. It’s a bit of work but the result will be what you’re looking for. And quite sophisticated looking tbh.

Strap in. Here we go.

Build the feedback form, and make sure you ask for the name and email address of the feedback recipient. Also make sure gmail is on for students.

Turn on the sheet for the form and open it

Install the autocrat add-on to the sheet

Create a Google doc using << >> as placeholders for the form field answers you want to share with the recipient. For instance, you can use <<recipient name>> to display the recipient name and <<feedback>> to display the contents of the form feedback field

go back to the sheet and run autocrat.

the TLDR on autocrat is that you can set it to run on form trigger and it will create a feedback doc every time someone submits a form aaaaannnndddd automatically send that custom doc to the recipients email indicated in the form

Full autocrat user guide here

There’s more customization like file naming conventions and folder designation

I used that extension for my student Chromebook agreement forms and did not even consider it for this option. The recommendation has been passed on to my teacher. We shall see what he thinks.

Another option could be to create an appsheet app for this. Same principal, student fills out a form and an automation can trigger an email to multiple people. Appsheet allows you to determine to which person an email is sent based on student info if you have that available in appsheet. Appsheet gives you much more control of what information you want to show and how (though not nearly enough to my liking).

In my case, I pull a lot of student information out of our SIS into a Google Sheet and use that in various appsheet apps. Information includes what class they're in and in other sheets I store which teacher teaches which class for instance. In appsheet I can then 'easily ' combine all this.

Appsheet is advertised as a 'no code' thing, but if you want to get serious about appsheet apps, you're gonna have to code like the good old days.
