Greetings all,

Was curious whether anyone is aware of changes to how user invites, particularly students, has changed in the last few days? I was just contacted by a teacher claiming that when they were trying to add a new student into their Google Classroom that the student wasn't showing up on the invite screen. This was coupled with an unrelated login issue for the student to one of our student curriculum websites though I didn't see anything wrong there, I just assumed in both cases that the username was being typed in wrong.

But I decided to go ahead and have a little trial in my test Google Classroom and noticed that for accounts I've made on/since 2/25/25 that they will not auto populate in the Invite User field in Google Classroom. Now if you type in the full email it will recognize the account so the issue is minor, and mimics behavior I've seen in Gmail where auto populate doesn't work till that email address is included in an email at some point, but I I found student accounts made on 2/24/25 and before seem to be unaffected and will auto populate just fine. I don't send or receive email from students so obviously the behavior is not 1 to 1 with Gmail's autopopulate.

I'm assuming there was a update being gradually rolled out that I didn't pay attention to in the Google Workspace Updates but figured I'd throw a line out here to verify.

Not really. We haven't had a large influx of new students and given that putting in the full email of the student still allows for inviting it's relatively minor. Have you been observing similar behavior lately? I'll probably be paying extra attention at the beginning of next school year though.

No, I haven't heard anything of this elsewhere, but I didn't want your question to disappear in a black hole. 🙂
