It is unclear what is actually going away.

Also, why?

Is nobody interested in Apps Usage and Accounts reports?

Or is it only a poorly worded email, and what they mean is that they will all (?) be found in the Investigation Tool, and not be seen in the left column in the admin console?

Yes, I too see the NEW tag on things that is perhaps going away. 🙂

I'd love to get that cleared up, @chand or @Kristal

Also, YES, it was very annoying to have to replace all links in the email with the real addresses, instead of the tracker addresses. Would give weird statistics for Google to see that I visited the same articles hundreds of times from different parts of the world. 🙂

Dear Google Workspace for Education administrator,

We’re writing to inform you that starting May 18, 2025, the Google Workspace Classroom, Accounts, and Apps usage reports will no longer be available in the Admin console.

However, some of this data will continue to be available to customers through other channels, such as Classroom logs, audit log export capabilities, and Classroom analytics.

Here are the impacted metrics:

Apps Reports > Classroom

Active classes; Posts created

User Reports > Apps usage

Classroom - Last used time; Classes created; Posts created

User Reports > Accounts

Classroom - Last used time; Classes created; Posts created

What you need to do

You can still access Classroom metrics data through other channels, but these channels may not provide all the same metrics that are being decommissioned.

Here’s a list of the alternate channels we have put together:

Audit logs search (for all customers):

In the Admin console, you can search Classroom logs to see Classroom classes and posts created:

Go to Reporting > Audit and investigation > Classroom log events
Click Add a filter > select Event
Select Course created (to replace "Classes created")
To replace “Posts created”: Click Add a filter > select Event > Course work updated

Note: To visualize the data as a cumulative graph, you can export the data and import it into Google Sheets.

Investigation tool search (for Education Plus and Standard customers):

Only customers with a Google Workspace for Education Standard subscription or Google Workspace for Education Plus subscription license assigned to them can access the investigation tool.

In the Admin console, you can run a search in the investigation tool to see Classroom classes created and Classroom posts created:

Go to Security > Security center > Investigation tool
Select Data source > Classroom log events
1. Click Add Condition > select Event
Select Course created (to replace “Classes created”)
To replace “Posts created”: Click Add Condition > Select Event > Course work updated

Audit logs export to BigQuery:

Only customers with a Google Workspace for Education Standard subscription or Google Workspace for Education Plus subscription can follow the instructions below to export their Classroom logs to BigQuery:

Set up a BigQuery project for reporting logs
Set up service log exports to BigQuery
Once configured, admins can connect BigQuery to Looker Studio and copy the Classroom Looker Studio template to visualize data

For customers who use GAM or the Classroom API:

Refer to our Reports API and Classroom API documentation for details

Classroom analytics:

Only customers with a Google Workspace for Education Plus subscription can access Classroom data via Classroom analytics.

The Classroom analytics dashboard gives designated education leaders and support staff direct visibility into student performance and engagement in the classroom.

While Classroom analytics may lose some signals previously available in the Admin console, it offers several key advantages:

Allowing users to drill down to more granular units: by organizational units, class, or student
Ability to provide direct visibility to non-IT folks
Added signals of assignment completion and grades

Overview:

Provides Education leaders and staff direct visibility into student performance and engagement in the classroom
Track assignments, grades, percent of active students in Classroom—this can be seen in individual classes or organizational units
Number of weeks since individual students have been active in Classroom

These are data that will no longer be available (and where it can be found currently):

Apps Reports > Classroom

Active classes; Posts created

User Reports > Apps usage

Classroom - Last used time; Classes created; Posts created

User Reports > Accounts

Classroom - Last used time; Classes created; Posts created

The full reports themselves are not being deprecated - just the Classroom-related metrics within those reports. Some of those Classroom-specific metrics can be accessed elsewhere once this change takes place, including the Investigation Tool, logs export to BigQuery, GAM, and the Reports API.
