Directory Not Updating Correctly to Reflect Changes to User Information

We update job title in the employee information screen of the user info section of a user via a sync process. This is working just fine as when you look a user up in Google Admin their profile is correct.

We have some users that have where the new title will overwrite what is listed in the directory / their contact card without issue. Other users will have an old title stick and not get overwritten for several title changes.

If we find a user that has a bad title and look them up in admin, clear their title, save, enter the title back, and save again. The title will sync though.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Support got me to the workaround I have right now but was unhelpful after they learned that we are using the API to update the information.

To me, it seems likely that this is a case of user contacts overriding the organizational directory. See https://github.com/taers232c/GAMADV-XTD3/wiki/Users-Contacts for how to update user's personal contacts using GAM if you wish.

This is a problem that comes up fairly frequently, especially given the default setting for Google to save people you interact with frequently as personal contacts--see https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7345608?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop#zippy=%2Csave-contact-info-when-you-interact-with-people

I do see Google's logic for this, though: I might very well want to have a personal contact card that overrides the directory. For example, my contact card for my boss might include his cell phone, birthday, or spouse, none of which he would want to be shared with the whole campus!

Thanks for this information. I was thinking it was something along those lines. The user I was testing with seemed to have extra information that it looked like they entered but they were not a contact for me.
