Maybe a dumb drive file transfer ownership question

When I select a file, I don't get an option to "Transfer Ownership"... Am I missing something? I only get the permission options of "Editor/Commenter/Viewer"

Two ideas: Are you the owner? Is the file in a Shared Drive?

Yes and no. It's a google file in My Drive.

Got it. Had to ask the simple questions first. I think you have to make someone an editor first, then change ownership to them.

And when the original account gets deleted, the data that was in the previous person's account will have moved into the new person's account?

Ultimately a leaving employee wants to transfer all their My Drive data to someone in their department. If the leaving employee transfers ownership to the other person, the deletion of the leaving employee won't have any impact on the files, correct?

But if it's truly everything, then you should do it, as that is much easier.

Even having the current owner delete everything that should not be transferred, and then you transfer the rest is also a LOT less work for everyone involved.
