Hello everyone,

Food is one of humanity’s most fundamental needs, yet agriculture is often overlooked as a career pathway by younger generations. When students think about future careers, they frequently aspire to become engineers, IT professionals, doctors, or entrepreneurs. Rarely do they consider the vast opportunities available in agriculture and agribusiness.

This raises an important question:

How can we make agriculture and agribusiness more appealing to young professionals and the next generation of learners?

Agriculture is one of the world’s oldest revolutions and remains the foundation of every society. It feeds populations, supports economies, creates jobs, and plays a critical role in environmental sustainability. As global challenges such as food security, climate change, and population growth continue to intensify, the need for innovative agricultural leaders has never been greater.

Through eLearning, we have an opportunity to reshape perceptions by highlighting:

The critical role of agriculture in food security and sustainable development
Agriculture’s contribution to environmental stewardship and climate resilience
Emerging technologies such as AI, drones, precision farming, and data analytics
Digital tools that are transforming modern farming and agribusiness
Diverse career pathways in agritech, food systems, sustainability, supply chain management, and agricultural entrepreneurship
Industry partnerships that connect learning with real-world impact

As educators and learning professionals, we must ask ourselves:

How do we position agriculture not as a traditional industry of the past, but as an innovative, technology-driven sector that can solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges?
What strategies, learning experiences, or success stories have you seen that effectively inspire younger generations to pursue careers in agriculture and agribusiness?

Such an important question, @Richard2828 - "How can we make agriculture and agribusiness more appealing to young professionals and the next generation of learners?"

In the US we are seeing an incredibly disrupted agriculture industry from climate, tariffs and fiscal challenges that make it difficult for individual and small farms to succeed. As someone who lives in farm country I am often thinking about these issues. Encouraging more young folks to look to farming as a career path is tricky - American kids were farm kids up until my generation came through. The 1980s seriously disrupted the pathway for many family farms that continues to this day. A return to a robust farm industry is going to be important at all levels of education, but the emphasis on business is going to play a key role. Your tagline could really help with explaining the importance and opportunity in Ag - "Food sustains life. Agriculture sustains food. Education sustains the future of agriculture."

Thank you for your insightful response. I believe one of our biggest challenges is changing the narrative around agriculture. Instead of presenting it as a traditional profession, we should present it as one of the world's most innovative and impactful industries.
